📚 National Year of Reading 2026
As you may know, 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading—a nationwide initiative designed to reignite a culture of reading for pleasure across the UK. This exciting programme will be stewarded by the National Literacy Trust (NLT) and sponsored by the Department for Education.

🌟 Reading Comes Alive in Our Classrooms
To mark the start of this special year, our classroom doors have been transformed into vibrant displays showcasing our new class texts. The moment children arrive, they are greeted with colour, creativity, and curiosity—an instant reminder that reading is at the heart of our school.
These displays are more than decoration. They send a clear message: reading matters here.

📖 Why Reading Matters
Prioritising reading is essential because it:

  • Builds vocabulary, knowledge, and comprehension
  • Supports writing across the curriculum
  • Develops imagination, empathy, and confidence
  • Gives every child access to learning in every subject

💬 Creating a Reading-Rich Culture
When children see books valued in their environment, they are more likely to see themselves as readers. Our displays spark conversations, promote ownership of class texts, and help establish a reading-rich culture from day one.
By making reading visible, valued, and celebrated, we give children the very best start in their learning journey.
